Overview

Kilimanjaro National Park covers an area of approximately 1,688 square kilometers, encompassing the entirety of Mount Kilimanjaro and its surrounding montane forest. The park is located in northern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border, and is a short drive from the town of Moshi. The crown jewel of the park is, of course, Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.

The main attraction of Kilimanjaro National Park is the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro itself. Known as the “Roof of Africa,” it is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro has three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo is the highest peak, with the famous Uhuru Peak marking the summit.

Getting There

Kilimanjaro National Park is easily accessible from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), which is served by several international airlines. The park is a short drive from the town of Moshi, where many trekking companies are based. Private transfers and organized tours are available to take you to the park’s entrance gates.
